Education Programs: Kids in the Garden
Education Program Director Erin Derden-Little leads the farm's Youth Programs, as well as a Farm to School Docent Program to provide training in garden-based-education. She also manages a Kids' Garden at the farm.
Youth Programs
Youth programs at Redwood Roots Farm include field trips for K-6th grade classes, group visits and work projects, and summer day programs. Many of these activities are part of the Humboldt County Farm to School Program (a program of the Community Alliance with Family Farmers).
Farm to School Docent Program
The Farm to School Docent Program is a great opportunity for folks interested in working with kids in an outdoor learning environment. After becoming familiar with the farm and gaining experience with garden-based education, docents help lead activities for elementary school students during Farm-to-School fieldtrips. Offered in spring and fall.

Kids' Garden
The Kids' Garden at Redwood Roots Farm is used during youth field trips, and featured during workshops for teachers interested in garden-based education. It was designed especially to provide smaller groups of students with a fun, interactive learning environment.
In addition to space for planting, the garden contains themed perennial beds, berries, worm and aerobic compost systems, a cold frame, and a wheelchair accessible bed, along with educational signage about plant parts and nutrition.
